The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued two important safety recalls that pose a potential risk of fire. The first recall involves smoke detectors that do not properly notify the homeowner in the event of a fire. The other product recall is due to the risk of injury from candle flames that burn too high. Smoke Detector Product Recall

Certain ESL and Interlogix brand 400 and 500 series smoke detectors are being recalled because of reports of radio interference with the hardwired system causing the alarm to malfunction. As a result, the alarm does not sound. The recall affects 33 models and a total of 144,000 smoke detectors. The units were sold between March, 2013 and February, 2014. The defective smoke detectors were sold at various security and alarm stores and installed in homes, college dorms, apartments, hotels and commercial buildings.

If a consumer believes they have one of these models of defective smoke detectors in their residence or building, immediately contact the security system provider. The manufacturer will provide and install a new detector at no charge.
Tin Candles Product Recall

The CoScentrix DD Brand Tin Candles are being recalled due to the product’s potential risk of fire. The flame of the candle can become so elevated as to catch the tin container on fire. Approximately 126,000 of the defective candles were only sold at Hobby Lobby.

There have been two reported incidents of the candle’s wax surface catching fire, one causing property damages. To avoid the risk of personal injury, consumers must cease using the candles at once. The defective candles can be returned to Hobby Lobby stores for a refund or store credit.
